Artwork Guidelines

Set up your files for a smoother print process.

Use these general guidelines to prepare artwork before upload. Product-specific requirements can vary, so always review the specifications and proof supplied for your order.

Core file checks

Start with the correct size and clean source artwork.

Well-prepared files reduce avoidable revisions and help the proofing stage move more efficiently.

Final size

Build artwork at the ordered finished dimensions unless the product instructions specify a scale.

Bleed

When color or images reach the edge, include approximately 0.125 inch of bleed on each side unless directed otherwise.

Safe area

Keep important text and logos safely inside trim lines so small production shifts do not crowd them.

Image quality

For most close-viewed print, use high-resolution images—typically around 300 PPI at final size.

Color

CMYK files are generally recommended for print. Screen colors can shift when reproduced with ink or toner.

Fonts

Embed fonts in the final PDF or convert type to outlines when appropriate and keep an editable source copy.

Preferred files

Send the best version available.

A properly exported PDF is often the most reliable production file. Editable source files and linked assets can also help when design changes are required.

Large-format graphics may use different scale and resolution targets because viewing distance changes. Ask LF Graphics before rebuilding a very large file.
File typeBest use
PDFPreferred final output for many print products when fonts and images are embedded correctly.
AI / EPSVector logos and editable artwork that may need scaling or adjustment.
TIFF / JPGHigh-resolution photographic artwork saved at the intended reproduction size.
PNGGraphics requiring transparency; confirm color and resolution before production.
Before approval

Review the proof like the finished product.

Zoom in and read every line. Confirm the size, sides, orientation, crop, quantity, material and finishing—not only the artwork itself.

Check spelling, phone numbers, URLs, dates and prices
Confirm logos, colors, image crops and alignment
Verify front/back order and page sequence
Approve only when every specification is correct
